Henri Cartier-Bresson

Henri Cartier-Bresson was born in Chanteloup-en-Brie, Seine-et-Marne. Since he was little, he had always had a fascination for the arts, and in 1932, he found his first camera, a Lecia, and sought to be a photographer from then on. In 1933, his first exhibition was at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York, and later on in life in 1940, he was captured during the war, but escaped in 1943. After escaping he joined an underground group to help those who escaped and prisoners of war. Henri Cartier-Bresson filmed one documentary (Le Retour ) and published one book  (Images à la Sauvette), as well as founding his own company called Magnum Photos. He died in August of 2004 right before he turned 96.
